Managing the Waste and Resources Strategy Unit for SEPA, John Ferguson played a critical role in the 1999 National Waste Strategy Scotland. A St. Andrews University graduate, he went on to work in the offshore oil industry as a drilling fluids engineer. He then became a Recycling Officer in Perth in 1990 initiating his now established belief in managing waste as a resource leading to environmental protection and economic efficiency. A founder member of Recycling Advisory Group, Scotland, he played a pivotal role in first UK REMADE group and was a COSLA recycling advisor. John's enthusiasm, passion and commitment have been central to the development of Scotland’s National and Area Waste Plans co-ordinating with the National Waste Strategy. He strongly believes that partnerships between national and local government, and the private and community sectors, are the best way to find solutions to the difficult and complex problems now facing Scotland's waste industry in the 21st Century.
