A Bangor Agricultural graduate, Graham Harvey started as a Farmers Weekly reporter. From late 70’s he freelanced in countryside, food and environmental writing featuring in Sunday Times, New Scientist, Country Life etc. He also wrote The Old Muckspreader in Private Eye for 3 years. Since mid 80s his writing ranges from over 500 episodes of The Archers, to a radio play about land reform, to episodes of The Bill for TV. His recent theatre work, “The Process”, gives the life story of nitrate fertiliser inventor, Fritz Haber, who was later known as “the father of gas warfare”. In 1997 Graham’s first book, The Killing of the Countryside, won BP’s Natural World Book Prize followed by The Forgiveness of Nature, a study of grassland in Britain’s life and culture. Currently working on a food and health book Graham will give a welcome broader perspective to the work of the SEER Centre. |
